SPONDYLITIS, SCIATICA AND BACK PROBLEMS :
One of the most common sources of missed work in this country is back problems. Most adults will experience one or more Back Problems during their working lives. While a majority of these injuries are minor, a strain or sprain.
Strains and sprains :-
These are actually two different injuries. A sprain involves a stretched or torn ligament, while a strain is a stretched or torn muscle or tendon. Showing off on the basketball court, overdoing it in aerobic classes or helping a buddy out in a move can cause either injury.
Herniated Disc :-
The discs are structures that sit between each pair of vertebrae providing flexibility and cushioning. The disc is made up of two layers, the outer Annulus Fibrosus and the inner Nucleus Pulposa. When the outer layer is damaged of strained, it can allow the inner, gel like pulposa to extrude and put pressure on nerves that lie in the same area. That pressure causes pain, numbness and tingling in the legs or back. Most herniated discs will heal with minimal treatment. It is estimated that more than half of the people who have a herniated disc aren’t even aware of it. Conservative options include physical therapy, Analgesics and Anti inflammatory, Epidural injections of pain killers and steroids given orally or by injections.
Fractures :-
Fractures can occur when the back is subjected to blunt force trauma for example in a car accident or fall. They can also be the result of Degenerative bone disease in the spine. A frequent cause is osteoporosis, a condition where the bone loss mass and density making them particularly fragile. If the cause of the fracture is osteoporosis, then calcium supplements and other medications that help reduce the deterioration of the bone are prescribed, for trauma related injuries hospitalization and painfull procedure is considered.
Other more rare condition :-
They are other, fairly rare, conditions that can cause Back Problems. Spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis tumours and ankylosing spondylitis can all result in back pain.
SKIN AND HAIR PROBLEMS :
The medical term for hair loss is alopecia. The most common type is pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). It accounts for about 95 percent of hair loss from the scalp. It’s typically permanent and can be attributed to heredity. Another type of alopecia, alopecia areata, can be temporary. It can involve hair loss on your scalp or your body. Its specific cause is unknown. Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp and can be the result of heredity, certain medications or an underlying medical condition. Anyone — men, women and children — can experience hair loss.
Causes of Hair Loss
Baldness is not usually caused by a disease, but is related to aging, heredity, and testosterone. In addition to the common male and female patterns from a combination of these factors, other possible causes of hair loss, especially if in an unusual pattern, include:
– Hormonal changes (for example, thyroid disease, childbirth, or use of the birth control pill)
– A serious illness (like a tumor of the ovary or adrenal glands) or fever
– Medication such as cancer chemotherapy
– Excessive shampooing and blow-drying
– Permanent hair straightening
– Emotional or physical stress
– Nervous habits such as continual hair pulling or scalp rubbing
– Burns or radiation therapy
– Alopecia areata — bald patches that develop on the scalp, beard, and, possibly, eyebrows. Eyelashes may fall out as well. This is thought to be an immune disorder.
– Tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp)
– Studies have shown that poor nutrition, limited food intake, and deficiencies in certain nutrients can cause thinning.
Hair Loss Symptoms
Symptoms of alopecia include hair loss in patches usually in circular patterns, dandruff, skin lesions, and scarring. Alopecia areata usually shows in unusual hair loss areas e.g. eyebrows, backside of the head or above the ears where usually the male pattern baldness does not effect. In male-pattern hair loss, loss and thinning begin at the temples and the crown and either thins out or falls out. Female-pattern hair loss occurs at the frontal and parietal region of head

GAS & ACIDITY :
Is Too Much Flatulence Bothering You?
Although having gas is common, it can be extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing at times. Gas is eliminated either by burping (belching) or passing it through the rectum (flatulence). Half to two liters is produced normally in adults and may pass up to 14 times a day on an average. But the condition can be really bad for some individuals -one study noted a person who expelled gas 140 times daily, with 70 passages in a period of just four hours. Although every one has gas, but why do some suffer from it more than others? The answer lies either in their biological conditions of their gastro-intestinal tract or in their eating habits. The Gas usually comes from two sources – (a) the air that is swallowed in with food while eating, (b) as a part of normal breakdown of certain undigested foods by harmless bacteria naturally present in the large intestine.
When the digestive system is not able to digest some carbohydrates (sugar starches and fiber found in many foods) due to some shortage and absence of certain enzymes, these undigested carbohydrates when they reach large intestines are broken down by harmless bacteria to produce gas (carbon dioxide, hydrogen and in some methane) .This gas formation increases in people who suffer from lactose intolerance (carbohydrate intolerance). Irritable bowel syndrome — a chronic form of stomach upset that gets worse from stress and Malabsorption (when your body cannot absorb or digest a particular nutrient properly).
Though the symptoms are usually bloating , abdominal pain , belching and flatulence not everyone experiences all of them. The amount of gas produced and the sensitivity of the gasro-intestinal tract to the gas , determines the kind and the intensity of the symptoms that are produced .For example bloating in the abdomen is not produced by excessive gas, it is usually the result of an intestinal disorder, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The cause of IBS is unknown, but may involve abnormal movements and contractions of intestinal muscles and increased pain sensitivity in the intestine. These disorders may give a sensation of bloating because of increased sensitivity to gas.
